Who Is SHAP?
The State Horticultural Association of Pennsylvania (SHAP) is an educational organization with a mission “to preserve and enhance the viability of the commercial fruit industry through educational outreach, research support, promotion, and pro-active involvement with legislative affairs”.
The association has 600 members who are actively engaged in horticulture pursuits. The association sponsors an annual convention in conjunction with the Horticultural Societies of Maryland and New Jersey, and the Pennsylvania Vegetable Growers Association. This convention includes educational programs, a trade show, and regional educational meetings. It encourages improved methods in the production, harvest, handling, storage, marketing, and utilization of fruit crops. The association supports the Pennsylvania fruit industry which contributes significantly to the health, well-being, and enjoyment of life for Pennsylvania citizens and people throughout the world.
